Vegetarian Wedding Menu
A Vegetarian Wedding Menu: is important to consider, as even if you are not vegetarians one, or several, of your guests will be. Such guests need no longer just be offered a side-dish of vegetables! There is a huge array of dishes that you may incorporate into your menu that carnivores will also love. First, however, it is important to understand the difference between vegetarians and vegans.
Vegetarian Wedding Menu: Definitions
A Vegetarian is a person who does not eat red or white meat, fish, poultry, crustacean, or slaughter house by-products, e.g. gelatin. A Vegan is a person who does not eat any animal products at all, i.e. meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey. Most are “lacto-ovo”, i.e. they do eat dairy products and eggs.
Statistics for the 1990’s show that there were 6.1% vegetarians in the UK and 2.5% in the USA – these figures are on the increase. The highest density of vegetarians can be found in India due to their Buddhist legacy. The most famous vegan must be Carl Lewis – the fastest man on earth.
Vegetarian Wedding Menu: Diets
Diets are based on plant foods. There are literally hundreds of vegetables to choose from, as well as fruit, nuts, seeds, grains and pulses. Most vegetables and fruits are now available all year round. When meeting with your caterer have some sample ideas for them to work with, and be clear about your needs, tastes, restrictions, etc. Choose dishes that can be prepared in advance if you are hosting a large number of guests. Ensure you are familiar with your caterer’s cuisine, if not it is essential that you have a menu tasting session.
