Is this an extortionate sum? Probably not. Why? Well, Donald Trump’s bride spend $250,000K (USD) on just one of her wedding dresses and that was allegedly at a discounted price for having modeled it before the wedding! So I guess it makes Bec’s $6,500K (AUD) Alex Perry wedding dress very modest in comparison. Tom Cruise has not even married Katie Homes yet and has already spent $235,000 on a diamond engagement ring.

Other big spenders include $1.5 million by Tiger Woods to Elin Nordegren, also Michael Douglas to Catherine Zeta-Jones; over $1 million by Paul McCartney to Heather Mills and Brad Pitt to Jennifer Anniston; $3.4 million by Lisa Minelli to David Gest. However, multimillionaire Peter Shalom to Pauline spent $8 million, including $2 million on entertainment by Elton John, spent the most.

- the bride and/or groom are wealthy and can afford to indulge themselves
- the finest quality, top grade produce, rare or very scarce materials are used
- the bonbonieres can be very lavish
- all the guests out of pocket expenses are picked up, e.g. accommodation
- all the bridesmaids and bridal parties expenses are picked up, e.g. bridesmaids dresses, hair, makeup, etc.
- security is an added expense
- it is one way of showing to the world the love they have for one another – no expense is spared!

The scenario is the exact opposite to a “shoestring” budget wedding. However, I do believe there is the added pressure to put on a performance for the adoring public even though it is a private event. The toughest security cannot keep the media helicopters from hovering to get their exclusive!

This obviously does not include the wedding planner - David Grant's fees.

Recouping Royal And Celebrity Wedding Costs:

In certain circumstances, should the bride and groom decide to do so, they may recoup a portion, if not all, even more, of their costs. For example:

- giving exclusive media rights of the wedding to a magazine
- giving an exclusive post wedding interview
- by lending their name to endorse a company or brand
- by promoting a fashion house, shoes, wedding planner, etc
- by making written recommendations, or having their picture, in a companies marketing literature

It is the celebrity’s agents, or royal press office, which would deal with requests to promote brands, designs, or make endorsements.
