Royal And Celebrity Bridesmaids

Royal And Celebrity Bridesmaids: are offered a double-edged sword when asked to join a royal or celebrity bridal party. On the one hand it is a very great privilege and this is what most little girls dream of being. On the other hand they will be subject to enormous public interest, media scrutiny and subject to great pressure to be and look perfect. Then there are the duties associated with being a bridesmaid, flower girl, or pageboy. Click here for further details: bridesmaids duties.

Complications in Choosing Royal And Celebrity Bridesmaids:

It is often not the easiest of tasks in “normal” circumstances to select the bridal party. Additional complications with both the bride and bridesmaids need to consider are:

- the timing (often late in the day) and length of the wedding
- the ability to be able to assist a future Princess, or Queen, on the day
- the ability to cope with nerves
- being able to control ones bladder for a long time
- for younger children separation from their parents for a lengthy period of time
- the necessity to attend dress rehearsals
- for pageboys, in particular, to wear an outfit they may not like!

This is on top of the usual balance of selecting a fair representation from both parties’ families, without causing offence to those eligible but not selected!

Past Royal And Celebrity Bridesmaids:

In 1999, HRH Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones reached what I thought was a great compromise. They chose their respective Godchildren: the two pageboys Master Sowerbutts (7) and Master Warburton (6), and two bridesmaids Miss Hadden (8) and Miss Taylor (5).

Prince Frederick and Mary Donaldson went along a more traditional route. Mary chose her two sisters (Mrs. Stephens and Mrs. Bailey) and best friend (Miss Petty). The three flower girls were the daughters of her sisters’ ages ranging from 6 – 8 and the pageboys from Prince Frederick’s side of the family, his nephew Prince Nikolai and Count Friedrick, both aged 4.

In 2002 for her fourth marriage (to David Gest) Liza Minelli had 36 in her bridal party! She had a star-studded line-up, choosing two matrons of honor (Elizabeth Taylor and Marisa Bereson), 13 bridesmaids, two best men (Michael and Tito Jackson) 2 ushers, 13 groomsmen, 2 flowers girls and two pageboys.

Lleyton Hewitt and Bec Cartwright had 15 in their bridal party. They included a mix of family, school and childhood friends, as well as sporting and acting stars, (Roger Rasheed, Brett Smith, Kate Ritchie, Ada Nicodemou and Charmaine Blanche).

Madonna’s second marriage to Guy Richie (his first) placed their children in a special light. Lourdes, then 4, is guessed to have been a flower girl, Gwyneth Paltrow being Matron of Honor. Rocco, 4 months, was a little young to have a significant role – he was baptized the day before.

Children also played an important part in Emma Thompson and Grey Wise marriage, their 3 year old daughter being a flower girl and walked her mum down the aisle. Similarly for Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley their children witnessed their marriage.

If not children, then pets have also played an important part. For example, in 2003 Adam Sadler’s wedding to Jackie, his bulldog “Meatball” acted as ring bearer.

It remains to be said that Royal and Celebrity Bridesmaids, flower girls and pageboys all have one thing in common. They all know how to keep a secret!
