DIY Weddings

DIY Weddings: have become increasingly popular. But, what does a “Do It Yourself Wedding” actually entail? Does it mean that you are not employing a wedding planner, or does it imply something more? Undoubtedly it means different things to different people. However, my definition is that the bride and/or groom not only arrange the wedding themselves, but in addition they undertake several, if not all, of the tasks involved in getting their wedding off the ground.

Successful Do It Yourself Weddings:

In order for any wedding to be successful, but even more so when Doing It Yourself, you need to:

- be highly organized: have an action plan detailing who is doing what, when and where, keeping a tight rein on finances
- learn the art of delegation
- have a sense of humor
- be willing to give things a try, only discarding an idea when it does not work out
- have an open mind to alternative suggestions, amending your plan as necessary
- let others contribute
- recognize and utilize the skills and knowledge of your families and friends
- know when to seek help
- know when to stop and take a break
