DIY Wedding Solutions

DIY Wedding Solutions: it’s no good having a hissy fit, throwing a tantrum, or getting an attack of the collywobbles, as they will not achieve anything, let alone a solution when something goes wrong! In truth no one actually has the perfect wedding as behind the scenes a mishap of one sort or the other has occurred. Of course guests never realize this and most of the bridal party are oblivious to any major or minor dramas. You are an adult and need to act like one to keep your dream wedding on the right track.

DIY Wedding Solutions: Top Five Disasters

1. The bride and/or groom has to cancel the wedding.
Solution: click on the following link - cancelling your wedding.

2. The groom forgets to pick his suit up from the dry-cleaners.
Solution: If the dry cleaner is open send someone to pick it up. If the dry cleaner is closed, (a) see if they have an emergency contact number and are able to open up the shop, (b) see if it is possible to borrow a suit from a formal hire wear company, (c) ask to borrow one of the ushers suits, or (d) ask any male relatives of similar stature for assistance.

3. The bride’s dress doesn’t fit, has a rip, or has a bad stain on it.
Solution: Have a final fitting one week prior to the wedding. Most brides loose weight, but if you have gained a few kilos and there is just no time for alterations, quickly purchase some lycra underwear in the cycle pants style either one or two sizes too small and forgo any other undergarments. Always keep your dress protected in a water resilient storage bag to avoid damage. Make sure you have the number of a friendly dry cleaner who is open at the weekend!

4. The bridal car does not arrive.
Solution: Having explained the situation, either (a) hire a taxi-cab, (b) ask a friend/neighbour to give you a lift, (c) drive yourself, (d) call the best man and ask him or one of the ushers to pick you up.

5. The bridal car is held up in traffic.
Solution: Make sure you have driven the route before hand on the same day of the week and same time you will be traveling to your wedding ceremony. A day or two prior drive the route again. Be aware of any road works, toll booths, etc. and spread the word to your guests.

DIY Wedding Solutions: Next Top Five Disasters

6. The wedding venue has been double booked.
Solution: Always have everything put in writing. Always insist upon written confirmation. Always visit the venue and insist on meeting the representatives of the establishment who will be providing the service to you on your wedding day.

7. You forget your wedding vows.]
Solution: If writing your own, fax a copy to the marriage celebrant so that he/she has them to hand. Remember Prince Charles and his first bride Diana Spencer muddled their vows and the whole nation forgave them!

8. You feel ill the morning of your wedding.
Solution: Mix a drop of brandy and a drop of port together. This will settle the queasiest of stomachs. Try and relax. Put your own emergency kit together with such things as head ache tablets, etc.

9. The band or DJ is absolutely awful.
Solution: If hiring a band ensure you go and listen to them live at a similar venue. Never rely on demo tapes. The same applies if hiring a DJ. Make sure you have provided a list of requests to be played at least a week in advance. It gives the band time to practice and the DJ time to dig out the specific song you want. If on the day the band/DJ are so awful (and you will be able to tell within the first half hour) ask the MC/best man to collect some CD’s (you’ll bound to have at least one guest living within reasonable distance of the venue) and take over. Also raid your guests cars!

10. There is unseasonable weather.

If you live in southern hemisphere there are certain times of the year you can almost guarantee sun. However, if living the northern hemisphere good weather is impossible to predict. Therefore, where ever you are have a wet weather contingency plan. This includes your chauffeur having large golfing umbrellas, wearing a pair of old shoes and changing them prior to walking up the aisle, or covering your shoes with plastic carrier bags to protect them, or getting the ushers to carry you!
