DIY Wedding Planner Research

DIY Wedding Planner Research: unfortunately a wedding site does not just write itself! There’s a little something called research concerned. Yes, I designed, planned and organized my own wedding. I’ve also organized some of my friends. This has enabled me to share with you some of my practical experiences. However, in endeavoring to give you up-to-date information it has been necessary to explore beyond my experiences.

DIY Wedding Planner Research Methods

If you are thinking about becoming a wedding planner then you should commence your education by:

- attending bridal expos, fashion shows, exhibitions of various designers, etc.
- become aware of the movement/trends in the design/art world
- become an expert on etiquette and know when the rules can safely be broken
- getting invited and attending every wedding you can
- gaining a knowledge base of different cultures, denominations, faiths
- reading/collecting/cataloging all types of literature (books, glossy magazines, etc.)
- speaking to various couples – engaged, married, divorced, married again
- starting a scrapbook of wedding ideas, wedding themes, etc.
- surfing the web, referencing useful sites/saving them as favorites
- visiting bridal, and associated shops, building up a relationship with vendors
- watching wedding videos (amateur, professional and commercial fiction)

Most of this may be achieved for little outlay. Libraries provide an excellent free resource.

DIY Wedding Planner Research: Where To Start

Most of this may be achieved for little outlay. Libraries provide an excellent free resource. Then there are second hand bookshops, or book exchanges. Approach your local priest/vicar who I am sure will give you loads of free advice. Be methodical when taking notes. Having a filing/storage system that lets you retrieve information at the drop of a hat and remember, if computerized, to always back up any work. Good luck.
