Bucks Night

Bucks Night: it’s traditional for the groom to celebrate the end of his bachelor days. Stag nights, bachelor parties, or boys only reunions, are part of the time honored pre-wedding activities. It’s an excellent way of introducing the bride and groom’s family members to each other as well as other male guests and allows time for some bonding! Originally it was also traditional for the groom to hold his party on the eve of his wedding. But, as it is no longer acceptable for the groom to be hung over, have noticeable cuts/bruises/be incapacitated in any way, or arrive late to his wedding such parties now take place a fortnight to a month prior to the wedding day.

Bucks Night: Who Is Responsible?

Traditionally it falls to the best man to arrange the festivities. As such, particularly where alcohol is involved, it is the best man’s key duty to be responsible for the health and safety of the groom throughout the event. Thus duties include:

- booking venues/entertainment/tickets/back stage passes
- booking transport – taxi, mini-bus, coach/bus hire and driver, train/flight tickets
- booking accommodation
- organizing food and drinks
- organizing cash/cheques/deposits, etc. for payment of the festivities

In the absence of a best man a responsible adult should take on this role – one who will preferably stay sober and ensure the groom does not end up a statistic in the morgue.

Bucks Night: The Budget

As with most things in life what you decide upon will come down to your budget and the budget of your guests. Armed with such knowledge the groom may either decide to:
- fund the entire event
- fund part of the event
- fund only himself It will then be up to the best man to:
- invite the guests
- inform those attending of the events
- collect any funds
